History of the Derwent Angling Association

We’ve just added to the site an outstanding account of the formation of the club in May 1865 and its trials and tribulations over the first few years of its existence. Written by Pete McParlin, who edits the excellent Fishing Archives website, the feature was compiled from club records and contemporary accounts and tells how poaching and pollution were prime concerns nearly 150 years ago too. In this first part, Pete tells the story of the club up to the introduction of grayling to the river in 1886, following an unsuccessful attempt to introduce North American brook trout to the river a few years earlier!
