Now that there’s a chill in the air, we should be seeing more grayling being caught on the Derwent. However, although we’re now hearing plenty of reports of six and seven inch fish being caught all along the river, we’ve not heard of anything bigger than this being caught. Did we lose all the bigger fish in the pollution incident the river suffered in the spring? Presumably not, as the spillage only polluted the river downstream from Allensford, so anything upstream from there wouldn’t have been affected. But still, no one’s reported catching any of these fish yet. Or is it just that comparatively few members are fishing up at the top of the river?
