All members should report any incidents of poaching they see on the river, either through the contact form on the website or by calling club officials on the telephone numbers on the back of your club ticket.

Please be as specific as you can regarding location and time, so we can be sure we’re targeting the right areas for additional patrols. You should also contact the police if you are threatened in any way.

Anyone wishing to become a water watcher please let us know your details through the website.

What to do if you discover a pollution incident

The association would ask all members who discover incidents of pollution in the River Derwent to take the following three steps:

1.Inform the Environment Agency as soon as possible, with as much information as you can give them with regard to the type of pollution and the location. The EA pollution hotline number is 0800 807060 (Freephone, 24 hour service) and is printed on the back of your rod licence.
2. Inform club officials on the number on the back of your club licence.
3. Make notes of your observations. If possible, take photos or a video of the incident and collect samples of any dead fish. A club official will collect these from you as soon as possible.

This information will enable the authorities to act quickly to keep the effects of any incident to a minimum and help locate the source of the pollution.

Rainbows in the River Derwent

The association would ask all members catching any rainbow trout from the River Derwent to remove them and if possible to take a picture and a record of length and weight and email it to us through the contact form on the website. We do not stock these fish and their introduction from the Derwent reservoir to the wild trout sanctuary is of concern to the club. We have been asked by Northumbrian Water and the Environment Agency to keep records of these fish to determine the best course of action. Thank you for your help with this matter.

Lost fishing tackle at Allensford

On Monday 26 July a member lost an 8’ 4# Greys Streamflex rod, and a black Redington reel with orange line and a green furled leader. The items were lost from the car park at Allensford Bridge. Reward offered for safe return. Tel 0191 273 2469.

A day on the river with England Rivers champ Simon Robinson is up for grabs in a charity raffle in aid of children’s cancer research organised by the madabouttrout website.

Tickets are a pound a strip and anyone interested in bidding will have to register on madabouttrout to buy a ticket.

Forces fish for free

When looking back at the history of the Derwent Angling Association, we noticed that the Association had offered free day tickets during the first and second world wars for service men and women on leave from active service.

The committee have unanimously agreed to revive this tradition and any service personnel on leave from active service or recovering from wounds received who wish to take up this offer need only contact us and we’ll let them know how to obtain their ticket.

We feel this is the very least we can do to show our support for the young men and women who put their lives on the line on our behalf.

Correction

It has come to our attention that a mistake had been made on the membership information page of our website on which we stated that the club’s senior membership had a limit of 200 members. This was incorrect – senior membership is in fact capped at 250, as stated in rule 13 of the club’s printed rule book, which is given to all members. We apologise for any confusion this may have caused.

Grayling and wild trout survey reminder

Could anyone catching wild trout or grayling in Association water, please let us know by telling us what you caught, where and when, and approximate size. This will help us identify areas of need on the river so we can target them accordingly.
